Newcastle is the most diverse district within our coverage area, encompassing a wide range of residential properties. These range from small, isolated areas of housing to significant commercial and industrial premises.
The greatest fire risks occur within people’s homes, and Newcastle is home to approximately 111,000 households. To address these risks effectively, the district’s four community fire stations collaborate closely, pooling resources and focusing efforts on identified hazards.

Byker Community Fire Station
Byker Community Fire Station serves areas within both Newcastle and North Tyneside Councils. It is the primary response hub for water-related incidents and floods, with operational staff trained as swiftwater rescue technicians. The station’s specialised equipment includes a fireboat for use on the River Tyne and three emergency rescue boats, which are deployed to incidents on the River Wear and other inland waterways.
For community use, the station offers a 42-seat auditorium with presentation facilities available for hire at a reasonable cost.
