Firefighters to host charity car washes
Crews from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service will be turning the hose on the grubby cars of the region over the next few weeks, starting with North Tyneside this weekend.
Residents can show their support for the fire and rescue community by getting their cars washed at Tynemouth Fire Station between 10am and 3pm this Saturday.
Every year, hundreds of stations across the country compete to raise the most cash for The Fire Fighters Charity, which supports injured firefighters and their families.
Richard Biggs, Watch Manager at Tynemouth, said:
‘This is a fantastic cause – and no one knows their way around a hose like a firefighter! There’s no need for an appointment and the amount you donate is up to you, although we’d love to see our name on the leaderboard.
Our firefighters and volunteers have got our sponges and buckets at the ready and we’re looking forward to making your car sparkle.’
Don’t worry if you can’t make it this weekend, as more car washes are planned at stations including:
- West Denton Community Fire Station – Saturday 20 April
- Gosforth Community Fire Station – Saturday 4 May
- Marley Park Community Fire Station – Saturday 4 May
- Swalwell Community Fire Station – Saturday 11 May
- Birtley Community Fire Station – Saturday 18 May
- Byker Community Fire Station – Saturday 18 May
- South Shields Community Fire Station – Saturday 25 May
- Chopwell Community Fire Station – Saturday 25 May
