HMICFRS Inspection
In 2024, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service were inspected by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) during their third overall round of inspections and were graded good against the diagnostic of public safety through fire regulation and responding to major incidents.
TWFRS were graded as adequate against the diagnostics of; understanding fire and risk, preventing fire and risk, responding to fires and other emergencies, best use of resources, future affordability, promoting values and culture, right people, right skills, and managing performance and developing leaders. And, the Service requires improvement against promoting fairness and diversity. Further details on these findings and the full Inspection Report is available on the HMICFRS website.
Additionally, we were one of 10 Fire and Rescue Services in England that were chosen as a representative sample, in terms of size, location, governance structures and performance, to be part of the Standards of Behaviour: The handling of misconduct in Fire and Rescue Services thematic inspection between October 2023 and January 2024.
